1814 – The war between Britain and the United States of America intensifies.
“Call it what you like. I no longer see the difference between a Yankee and a Redcoat. The Americans and the British vie for the same prize. This war is part of the means to the same end—power and riches—that is all. I do not care who has it. Not anymore. I only know, when it is all over, I want to be on the winning side.”
Captain Fox could see it in their eyes and in their faces. He realized he was not alone in the weariness of a nation.
Elizabeth Benton continues the dangerous quest – not only for her father – but for the one who holds her heart.
From the war torn shores of Lake Erie…
…to the high seas of the Atlantic Ocean…
The two spritely ships soared with the wind as though the sea was a sky of water.
“Black Water Witch! For certain, she is more than a privateer. She is Hell—so too her master! To be sure…the worst is yet to come.”
“It is barely daylight. Where do ya think to be going, miss, at this time of morn in a wee boat with the sea smoke rising like the Devil’s own breath come to warn ya not to pass?”
…the darkening storm of violence and destruction surge ruthlessly around her.
“But if it does not matter, Robbie, then why are we here now in this cold grave of a place waiting to kill once again? Surely, it matters, our home, our loved ones; it matters for all of that, does it not?”
“I am concealing nothing, sir. You best take care what you imply, Captain. Captain, is it? I wager you are a Captain in some sort of…Intelligence Corps. Do I assume correctly, sir? I am well-acquainted with the secretive and deceitful nature of some of the members of that illustrious corps.”
Nothing will deter her quest!
How will she withstand the atrocities of war on both land and sea?
Will she triumph over the treachery of evil that ceaselessly conspires against her?
Can she endure the hardships of an untamed Canadian wilderness?
Can she succeed?
Elizabeth could feel beads of sweat on her brow. She remembered another time she had felt like this. At Loder’s Tavern—with the liar Smeade across from her, accusing her, condemning her. She felt the same light-headedness, but this time there was no Sergeant Kerr to come to her aid. There was no one.
Will She Survive?
